| Term | Definition |

| solar system | the Sun together with the planets and other objects that orbit it |
| terrestrial planet | one of the four small rocky planets closest to the Sun. These are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars |
| asteroid | a small, rocky object that orbits the Sun |
| asteroid belt | the group of asteroids found between the rocky planets and the gas giants |
| gas giant planet | one of the four planets that are made of gas including Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune |
| dwarf planet | a round object that orbits the Sun but does not orbit a planet |
| Kuiper Belt | a huge region beyond the gas giant planets, made up of different-sized icy chunks of matter |
| comet | a mass of ice, rock, and gas orbiting the Sun in a large oval path |
| force | a push or a pull that acts on an object |
| gravity | the force of attraction between two objects |
