Vocabulary Words for Vocabulary Test 1.

QuestionAnswer
What's energy? A quantity that describes the capacity to do work; a source of usable power.
What's heat? A form of energy resulting from the temperature difference between a system and its surroundings.
The energy possessed by a body because of its motion is what kind of energy? Kinetic Energy.
The bouncing off or turning back of light, sound or heat from a surface is? Reflection.
What's refraction? A change in the direction of a wave that occurs as it passes from one medium to another of different densiy.
In any periodic function, the maximum absolute variation of the function is? Amplitude.
What's conduction? The transmission of heat through a medium and without the motion of the medium.
A fundamental principle stating energy cannot be created nor destroyed but only changed from one form to another is? The Conservation of Energy.
What is the crest of a wave? The peak or highest point of the wave.
What's efficiency? The relative effectiveness of a system or device determined by comparing output to input.
Entropy is? A measure of randomness or disorder of a closed system.
Frequency is the number of? Cycles or waves per unit time.
Emission of energy in the form of rays or waves is? Radiation.
What's thermal energy? Internal energy found by adding the kinetic energy of particles making up a substance.
The through of the wave is? The lowest point of the wave.
Vibration occurs when? A repetitive movement around an equilibrium point.
What is wavelength? The distance between crests of a wave.
