| 24-hour clock | a method of telling time that assigns a number to each hour of the day; also known as military time |
| apps | applications; software that is accessed through the Internet and runs on a computer, smartphone, tablet, or other mobile device. |
| assertive communication | a communication style characterized by confidence and consideration for others. |
| communication barrier | anything that blocks or interferes with the exchange of information. |
| communication style | a person’s preferred method for exchanging information, which includes words, tone of voice, and nonverbal signals. |
| cultural diversity | term that describes differences in age, gender, physical and intellectual abilities, sexual orientation, race, or ethnicity that influence what we believe, the way we think, and what we do. |
| e-prescribing | electronic generation, transmission, and filling of a medical prescription. |
| goniometer | an instrument for measuring angles. |
| medication | a substance or mixture of substances that have been proven through research to have a clear value in the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of diseases. |
| metric system | the decimal measurement system based on the meter, liter, and gram as its primary units of length, volume, and weight or mass respectively. |
| open-ended question | a question that requires more than a one- or two-word response. |
| patient interview | a structured communication between a patient and a healthcare worker for the purpose of collecting subjective data such as a medical history. |
| social media | a group of online communication tools that allow people to share information and resources via the Internet. |
| US customary units | The main system of weights and measures used in the United States based on the yard, pound, and gallon as units of length, weight, and liquid volume respectively; also known as household measurements. |
