5)Gene in population

Biology Revision 2

QuestionAnswer
What is Hardy Weinburg's Model? It's used to determine genotype frequency in a population.
What are the variables of the equation? What's the equation? p=frequency of dominant allele, q=frequency of recessive allele. (p^2+2pq+q^2=1),(p+q=1),see notebook
What does high levels of heterozygosity does? Example Improve health and adaptability, called hybrid vigour. Ex: DLS sheep
Give the definitions of population, range, dispersion, and density. Population=Gr's of individuals of the same species that live together in the same space and time. Range=where a population is, it can expand and contract, Dispersion=How it is distributed, Density=number of individuals in a given area.
What is a biological species? Gr's of actually or potential inbreeding natural populations which are reproductively isolated from other such groups
What are key factors of the environment that affect population? Abiotic, biotic and history! Abiotic factor= temperature, water, nutrients, sunlight, soil, and heterogeneity. Biotic factor= competitors, predators, disease and parasites. History also shape the environment (geology, dominant species, ect).
What is adaptation? Allele frequencies in a gene pool have changed, population has evolved. It's individuals trying to maintain homeostatis in the face of changing environment Those who succeed best and are more biological fit will transmit their genes to next generation.
What is adaptation responsable for? Evolution
What is acclimatation? Individuals adapting to their environment, like we were hotter clothes during winter.
What is an invasive species? What are examples? A population that adapted better to their environment (abiotic and biotic) than native species. They are advantaged bc of no predators and no parasites. Ex: Cow parsley, common reed, goby fish

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
