Classification of Living Things Notes

TermDefinition
species a group of organisms that are very closely related.
genus a group of similar species.
domain represents the largest differences among organisms.
Domain Bacteria contains all organisms within Kingdom Bariacte.
Domain Archaea includes all organisms in Kingdom Archaea.
Domain Eukarya made up of all eukaryotes.
Autotrophs organisms that make their own food.
Heterotrophs must eat other organisms for food.
Taxonomy the science of describing, classifying, and naming living things.
protists Members of the Kingdom Protista, are single celled or multicellular organisms such as algae and slime molds.
Kingdom Plantae consists of multicellular organisms that have cell walls, mostly made of cellulose.
Kingdom Fungi heterotrophs, and their cell walls contain chitin.
Kingdom Animalia contains multicellular organisms that lack cell walls.
