Renewable Energy Resources Notes

| energy resource | a natural resource used to generate electricity and other forms of energy. |
| Nonrenewable resources | natural resources that are used up faster than they can be replaced. |
| Renewable resources | natural resources that are replaced by natural processes at least as quickly as they are used. |
| Nuclear fusion | the process by which two or more nuclei fuse together to form a larger nucleus. |
| Nuclear fission | when the nuclei of radioactive atoms are split into two or more fragments. |
| Wind energy | uses the force of moving air to drive an electric generator or do other work. |
| hydroelectric energy | Electrical energy produced by moving water is called. |
| Solar energy | the energy received by Earth from the sun in the form of radiation. |
| Biomass | organic matter from plants and from animal waste that contains chemical energy. |
| Geothermal energy | energy produced by heat from Earth’s interior. |
