Forces Notes

TermDefinition
force a push or a pull.
net force the combination of all the forces acting on an object.
Inertia the tendency of all objects to resist a change in motion.
Mass the amount of matter in an object.
Acceleration the rate at which velocity changes.
Newton’s First Law of Motion An object at rest tends to stay at rest.
Newton’s Second Law of Motion The acceleration of an object depends on the mass of the object.
Newton’s Third Law of Motion For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Force equals mass times acceleration: F=MA
