Chapter 6 - Systems
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| System | a group of interrelated components designed collectively to achieve a desired goal. |
| Input | the command given to a system (the desired output) |
| Process | the action part of a system |
| Output | what is produced by a system. - the actual output |
| Subsystem | smaller systems that often make up other, larger systems. |
| Open-loop System | a system that has no way of monitoring and adjusting itself |
| Closed-loop System | a system that can respond and change its inputs and outputs. |
| Feedback | information about the output of a system that can be used to adjust it |
| Sensor | a monitor of a system’s output |
| Comparator | an instrument that compares the actual output of a system with the desired output or result |
| Controller | a device that turns a process on or off, or that changes it in some way |
| Limits of Controllability | minimum and maximum outputs that a system can produce |
