Carrying Capacity

TermDefinition
Symbiosis any type of a close and long-term biological interaction between two different biological organisms.
Competition the rivalry between or among living things for territory, resources, goods, mates, etc.
Parasitism relationship between two species of plants or animals in which one benefits at the expense of the other.
Commensalism relationship between two species where one species benefits and the othere get nothing in return.
Mutualism relationship between two species where both organisms benefit feom the relationship.
Prey used to describe organisms that predators kill for food.
Predator an organism that primarily obtains food by the killing and consuming of other organisms.
Logistic Growth when growth rate decreases as the population reaches carrying capacity.
Exponential Growth takes place when a population's per capita growth rate stays the same, regardless of population size, making the population grow faster and faster as it gets larger.
Ecosystem A system that includes all living organisms (biotic factors) in an area as well as its physical environment (abiotic factors)
Abiotic Factors a non-living part of an ecosystem that shapes its environment.
Biotic Factors describes a living component of an ecosystem
Community an interacting group of various species in a common location.
Population refers to a group of organisms of a species that interbreed and live in the same place at the same time.
Niche the job or task of a particular organism in an ecosystem.
Biosphere all the ecosystems on planet Earth.
Carrying Capacity the greatest number of species that an ecosystem can support.
Limiting Factors biotic and abiotic factors that limit the populations of different species.
Line graph sa graphical display of information that changes continuously over time.
Kaibab a type of deer species located on the Kaibab Plateau in Arizona.
Keystone species an organism that helps define an entire ecosystem. Without its keystone species, the ecosystem would be dramatically different or cease to exist altogether
Invasive species an organism that is not indigenous, or native, to a particular area.
Predation a common feeding behavior of natural animals, plants, and microorganisms where one species feeds on another for its survival.
Biodiversity a term that refers to all the different species on Earth.
Y-axis dependent variable belongs on the y-axis (vertical line).
X-axis The independent variable belongs on the x-axis
