Parts of an Experiment 21/22

Problem What the researcher is trying to find out
Hypothesis A prediction based on research or prior knowledge
Independent Variable The variable that is changed intentionally by the researcher to see how it affects something
Control Group The level of independent variable used to compare the other results
Levels of the Independent Variable changes to the independent variable that will be tested
Dependent Variable The variable that is measured as a result
Constants All the conditions that are kept the same throughout the experiment
Data the observations that are recorded (usually collected on a chart or table)
Trials the number of times you test each level of the independent variable
Error All of the external factors that happen during an experiment that could affect the outcome of the experiment
Conclusion A summary of what the data shows, Tells whether or not your hypothesis is supported by the data
Average calculated by adding a group of numbers and then dividing by the count of those numbers
