Reading

TermDefinition
Protagonist the central character in a story; the hero or heroine of a drama or other literary work
Antagonist the main character who opposes the protagonist in a narrative or play
Irony the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning
Rhetorical asked in order to produce an effect or to make a statement rather than to elicit information
Preposition a word that shows the relationship between a noun or a pronoun and another word in the sentence
Compound Sentence two or more simple sentences joined together to make another kind of sentence
Complex Sentence combines one independent clause and one or more subordinate clauses
Conjunction words that link other words, phrases, or clauses together (FANBOYS)
Staff a rod carried for protection or a symbol of authority
Edict a written proclamation having the force of law
Scowl an angry or bad-tempered expression
Arrogance an insulting way of thinking or behaving that comes from believing that you are better, smarter, or more important than other people
Loyal retainer often called side-kicks, these individuals are somewhat like servants who are heroic themselves. Their duty is to protect the hero/heroine and reflect his/her nobility
