| heliocentric | idea that the sun is the center of the universe (outdated) Later changed to to Sun being center of the solar system |
| Big Bang Theory | idea with evidence that the universe started very small and continues to expand. |
| telescope | a tool using lenses used for seeing things far away. |
| universe | Infinite, made up of many galaxies |
| spiral universe | the shape of our Milky Way |
| solar system | all the things that ORBIT a star, a galaxy is made up of many of these |
| galaxy | a system of millions or billions of stars- a universe has many of these |

| dwarf planet | 1. Orbits a star, 2. has gravity,3.mostly round, 4not a star,5 but does NOT clear a path (THINK PLUTO) |
| asteroid | a large unusually shaped rock in space, often found between Mars and Jupiter |
| meteor | a small rock from space that enters the earths atmosphere and burns up, makes a shooting star (in space its called a meteoroid) |
| rotation | the act of spinning around an imaginary middle line The earth spinning on its axis |
| revolution | the act of going around something The earth going around the sun |
