| Ternary form | ABA |
| Binary form | AB |
| Rondo form | ABACAD |
| Basso Continuo | A continued bass line usually played by harpsichord and lower strings |
| Ground Bass | A repeated pattern in the bass line |
| Suite | A dance |
| Passacaglia | A dance based on a ground bass, usually 3 beats in a bar |
| Overture | The orchestral introduction to an opera often featuring the best tunes in the opera. |
| Aria | Solo song in an Opera or Oratorio |
| Recitative | Sing-speech connecting Arias. Not much accompaniment |
| Oratorio | Similar to Opera, but religious |
| Trill | The rapid alternation of two tones either a whole or half tone apart. |
| Mordent | An ornament which sounds the main note, the note above and then the main note again. |
| Acciaccatura | (Short) Another name for the grace note - very short decorative note. |
