Can you explain how we know if something is alive?
| Term | Definition |

| R.O.G.E.R. | The mnemonic we use to remember the 5 characteristics of life. |
| Responds to the environment | Something alive will respond when their environment changes. |
| Organized with cells | Something alive is made up of cells that you can see under a microscope. |
| DNA | deoxyribonucleic acid, this found in the cells and has all the instructions each cell needs to do its job. |
| Grows and develop | Living things grow and develop. They change over time and will usually look different as they age |
| Energy | All living things use energy to function |
| Reproduce | All living things reproduce. |
| Asexual reproduction | A way to reproduce where the organism copies itself. It does not require and male and female. |
| Sexual reproduction | A method of reproduction that requires a male and female. |
| Homeostasis | Keeping your insides in balance |
| cell | structure that contains all the materials necessary for life |
