Unit 1: Plants and Animals in Their Environment

TermDefinition
Observation To use your 5 senses to learn more about something.
Classify To arrange or sort objects or living things according to their characteristics.
Vertebrates Animals that have backbones
Invertebrates Animals that DO NOT have backbones.
Vascular Plants with tube like structures.
Nonvascular Plants that pass water and nutrients from cells.
Sepal Leaflike parts that cover and protect the flower bud before the flower opens.
Pistil Extends into the flower and contains the ovary where egg cells are produced.
Stamen Male part of the flower
Pollination The movement of pollen from the stamen to the pistil.
Fertilization The process when the sperm and the egg cell combine.
Germinate To start to grow.
Life Cycle The stages a living thing goes through.
