Cell Organelles

TermDefinition
Nucleus "brain" of the cell ; stores all genetic info for the cell (DNA)
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) carries proteins (ribosomes) out of the nucleus
Ribosomes where proteins (cell messages) are made
Golgi body receives, repackages, and sends ribosomes to other cell parts
Vacuole stores food, water, and waste
Mitochondria "powerhouse" ; produces energy for the cell
Chloroplasts only in plant cells ; traps sunlight to make food (photosynthesis)
Cytoplasm jelly-like substance that holds all organelles in place
Cell membrane manages what comes in and out of the cell
Cell wall only in plant cells ; surrounds and protects the plant cell ; helps it keep its shape
