fossil definitions 1-7

QuestionAnswer
Fossil Remains,or imprints of prehistoric organisms that can tell when and where organisms once lived and how they lived.
Mold A tyoe of body fossil that forms in rock when an organism with hard parts is buried, decays,or dissolves and leaves a cavity in the rock.
Perrmineralized remains Fossils in which the spaces inside are filled with minerals from ground water.
Cast A type of fossil that forms when crystals fill in a mold or sediments washed into a mold and hardens into rock.
Index fossil Are the remains of species that existed on Earth relatively short periods of time were abundant and widespread geographically
Principle of superposition States that in undisturbed rock layers, the oldest rocks are on the bottom and the rocks become prgressively younger towards the top.
Carbon Film A thin film of carbon is left forming a copy of the original organism.
