Fossils

QuestionAnswer
Fossils Remains, Imprints, or traces of prehistory organisms that can tell when and where the orangisms lived.
Permineralized Remain Fossils in which the space inside are filled with minerals from underground water.
Carbon Film Thin film of carborn residue perserved as a fossil
Mold A type of body fossils that form in rock when an organism with hard parts is buried, decay, or dissolve, and leaves a cavity of the rock.
Cast A type of body fossil that forms when crystals filled a mold and sediments wash into a mold and hardens into a rock.
Index Fossil Remains of species that existed on earth for a relatively short period of time.
Principle of Superposition States that in underdisturbed rock layers.
Relative Age The Age of something compared with other things.
uncomformities Gap in the rock layer that is due to erosion or periods without any deposition.
Absolute Age Age; In years of a rock, or other project ; can be determined by using properites of the atoms that make up materials
Half- Life Time it takes for half the atoms of an isotope to decay.
Radiometric dating Process used to calculate the absolute age of rock by measuring the ratio of parent isotope.
unformitarianism princple starting that earth processing occuring today are similar to those that occured in the past.
