Fossils Remains,Imprints or traces of prehistoric orginisms that can tell when and where organisms once lived and how they lived
mold A type of body fossil that forms in rock when an organisms with hard parts is buried, decays or dissolves,and leaves a cavity in a rock.
Permineralized Reamains Fossils in which the spaces inside are filled with minerals from ground water.
Cast A type of body fossil that forms when crystals fill a mild or sediements wash into a mold and harden into a rock
Carbon film A thin film of carbon residue pressered as a fossil
Index Fossil Remains of species that existed on earth for relatively short periods of time ,were abundunt and widespread geographically,and can be used by geologist to assign the gess of rock layers.
principle of supersition state that undisturbied rock layers ,the oldest rock are on the bottom and the rocks become progressively yonger towerd the top.
Relative age the age of something compared with other things
Uniformitiarianism a gap in the rock layer that is due to erosion or periods without any depostion
absolute age a age in years of rock or other objects can be determined by using properties of the atoms that make up minerals
uniformitarianism principle stating that earth processes occuring today are similar to those that occured in the past
radiometric dating proccess used to calculate the absolute age of rock by messuring the ratio of parent isotope to daughter product in a mineral and knowing the half-life of the parent
half-life time it takes for half the atoms of an isotope to decay
radio active decay processe in which some isotopes breack down into other isotopes and particles
