Energy Group Vocab.

Circulatory, Digestive, and Respiratory Systems

TermDefinition
Circulatory system the blood transportation system
Arteries vessels that carry oxygen from heart to rest the body
Blood vessels tubes to carry the blood
Capillaries the tiniest vessels that connect arteries to vein
Heart the organ inside the chest that pumps blood through your body
Veins vessels that carry carbon dioxide back to your heart
Respiratory System the body system that takes in oxygen and removes carbon dioxide
Trachea the tube which carries air to the lungs; may also be called your windpipe
Lungs the pair of organs used for breathing found in the chest
Diaphragm muscle that forces air in and out of the lungs
Digestive System system to break food down into tiny nutrients which your body uses for energy
Esophagus carries food from mouth to stomach
Large intestine tube that removes water and moves undigested food out of body
Small intestine the part of the digestive system that extends from the stomach to the large intestines and completes the digestion of food
Stomach muscle that mashes food and holds digestive acids to break down food (chemical breakdown)
Mouth the beginning of digestive process; place where mechanical breakdown occurs
Cardiovascular System another name for the Circulatory System
