In what ways does Lisa prove her resourcefulness? Lisa attached a wagon to her bicycle to carry stuff and brought a basket for the chicken.
What did Lisa mean when she said, “Many rules have become useless”? What rules is she referring to? Many of the rules like traffic rules are useless because no one is driving.
What kind of person is Winifred Crowl? Use words and phrases from the text as evidence for your conclusions. Winifred Crowl is a kind & concerned woman. She tells the reader to live on the farm & use the books to help them. She also says “it makes us happy to know some young people will choose our place to make their new lives.” She also left them cookies.
What happened while Lisa was at the farm? She was happy because of Winifred’s words. She thought of driving the car.
What was the real reason for Lisa telling Todd the “Christmas” story? To help Todd feel better about the kids stealing their food, she wants to ease his worries and show him they can take a bad thing and turn it into something good.
The author states that Lisa wasn‘t really ten years old anymore. What does she mean by this? Lisa has adult problems and she is dealing with them as an adult rather than a ten year old.
Describe Lisa and Todd’s alarm system. A string around the house that would catch someone below the knees, ran threads through small holes in the windows that would knock over tin cans when an intruder broke the thread, hung up a sign that said no trespassers, piled rocks & glass bottles
How did Lisa explain the definition of “logical’ to Todd? Do you think it was a good explanation? Why? She explained that his idea of using the air pump was logical – her reaction of just staring was not logical. She also said that things that are logical fit together like a puzzle.
Do you think Charlie was justified in the way he obtained food? Did Lisa feel he was justified? Lisa did not feel Charlie was justified in using force to obtain food, she did not agree with him stealing the food. She was shocked, hurt and angry. She believes it is never acceptable to harm someone, even if you are hurt and hungry.
