Fibrous Two or more bones joined by fibrous connective tissue
Cartilaginous Two or more bones joined by cartilage
Epiphysis End of long bone
Diaphysis Shaft of long bone
Medullary Cavity Contains bone marrow
Fossa Depression in a bone or another part
Compact Bone Dense bone in which the bone matrix is solidly filled
Spongy Bone Very porous type of bone found on the epiphysis ends
Epiphyseal Plate Hyaline cartilage plate in the metaphysis at each end of a long bone
Hematopoesis Production of all the cellular components of blood and blood plasma
Red Marrow Type of marrow that contains hematopoietic stem cells to produce blood
Yellow Marrow Type of marrow that produces fat, cartilage, and bone
Trochanter Any of two bony protuberances by which muscles are attached to the upper part of the femur
Synovial Fluid A viscous fluid found in the cavities of synovial joints to reduce friction
Gliding Joint Nearly flat or slightly curved; allows sliding back and forth or twisting movements
Saddle Joint Two saddle-shaped bones that are fit to one another; variety of movement
