TermDefinition
observation information collected from what you see, feel, taste, hear or smell (five senses)
inference an explanation based on knowledge (what you know)
prediction tells what may happen in the future
conclusion a summary statement based on the results of an investigation
independent variable a manipulated variable or factor that is changed on purpose by the experimenter
dependent variable the factor in an experiment that changes as a result of the change applied in the experiment
constant things that are changed but remain the same in the experiment
hypothesis an educated guess that can be tested by an experiment or observation
investigation an experiment designed to answer a question
scientific method the process scientists follow to complete an investigation
