Mixtures & Solutions

TermDefinition
Ingredient One part of a mixture or solution.
Solution A mixture of one substance dissolved evenly in another substance, for example salt water or lemonade.
Mixture Two or more substances combined where they each keep their own properties and can be easily separated.
Magnet Tool that can be used to separate mixtures containing substances that are magnetic.
Physical Change Make different without changing what a material is made of such as breaking glass, melting an ice cube, or mixing red and yellow marbles.
Solubility The ability of a solid to be dissolved in a liquid.
Dissolve To mix evenly and break down and spread out in a liquid.
Separate To sort into individual parts or substances.
Evaporation Can be used to separate the substances in some solutions because the liquid evaporates and the solid is left behind.
Filter Tool that is used to separate a mixture by trapping larger particles and allowing smaller particles to pass through.
