turnover the rising and sinking of cold and warm water layers in a lake - occurs twice a year as the seasons change
iceberg a mass of ice floating in the ocean - it starts a part of a glacier
eutrophication an increase of nutrients in a lake or pond then algae from a thick scum
permeable substance a substance that water can pass through
impermeable substance a substance that water can not pass through
water table the top level of ground water
aquifer an underground layer of water-bearing permeable rock
spring a place where water comes up through the ground
artesian well a well in which water rises under pressure
