| condensation | when air cools the vapor makes clouds |
| precipitation | when water falls from clouds |
| divide | a ridge or continuous line of high land from which water flows in different directions |
| drainage basin | an area into which all of the water on one side of a divide flows |
| turnover | the rising and sinking of cold and warm water layers in a lake - occurs twice a year as the seasons change |
| iceberg | a mass of ice floating in the ocean - it starts a part of a glacier |
| eutrophication | an increase of nutrients in a lake or pond then algae from a thick scum |
| permeable substance | a substance that water can pass through |
| impermeable substance | a substance that water can not pass through |
| water table | the top level of ground water |
| aquifer | an underground layer of water-bearing permeable rock |
| spring | a place where water comes up through the ground |
| artesian well | a well in which water rises under pressure |
