List the five main characteristics of a mineral. A solid, naturally occurring, inorganic, crystalline structure, with a definite chemical composition.
What is Moh's Hardness Scale a scale that rates minerals from 1 - 10 depending on the mineral's hardness.
What is the HARDEST known mineral according to Moh's Hardness Scale? diamond
What is the SOFTEST known mineral according to Moh's Hardness Scale? talc
Explain how you test for a mineral's streak? you observe streak by rubbing a mineral against a piece of tile called a streak plate
streak the color of a mineral's powder
luster how a mineral reflects light from its surface
cleavage when a mineral breaks/splits along flat surfaces
fracture when minerals break unevenly along rough or curved surfaces.
Why are minerals always solids? it is always a solid because it has a definite volume and shape.
What is mining? when minerals are taken from the ground.
