List the modern conveniences the children did not have. They didn't have electricity, running water, refrigerators, heat, no fresh food, telephones.
Why do you think Lisa tells the "Barney Beagle" story rather than a fairy tale to Todd at bedtime? Barney Beagle is a familiar story that gives Todd practical ideas of something he can do to help.
Why did Lisa feel happy and confident at the end of chapter two? She had begun thinking and thinking is how people stay alive and solve problems. She thought of a farm and going there to get fresh food and maybe even a chicken. She thought of fishing and hunting, too.
