Art Song A musical setting of a poem for solo voice and piano

Bel Canto Style Cultivating the aria to its highest possible level; function was to delight audiences with melodious and spontaneous music
Verismo Realism
Leitmotifs Melodies or fragments of melodies used to identify particular characters, objects, or ideas; allows the music to support the drama as much as possible
