He showed that as long as the broth was protected from microorganisms, it remained free of living things.
Living things share several characteristics including what? -Made up of units called cells-Ability to reproduce-Are based on a universal genetic code-Grow and develop-Obtain and use materials and energy-Respond to their environment-Maintain a stable internal environment-As a group change over time
What common system of measurement do scientists throughtout the world use? Why is it necessary to use a common system of measurement? Metric System. Scientists need a common measurement system because they replicate each other's experiments and can't always be converting to their own systems because data could get changed.
A scientist wants to study the way a microscopic, unicellular organism moves. What are 2 reasons that the scientist should choose a compound light microscope rather than an electron microscope for making their observations? 1. You can't see live organisms with an electron microscope.2. They produce a clear image of objects at a magnification of 1000 times.
What are the first 4 levels of organization and a description of each. Molecules-groups of atoms; smallest unit of most chemical compoundsCells-smallest functional unit of lifeGroups of Cells-tissues, organs, and organ systemsOrganism-inividual living thing
What are the last 4 levels of organization and a descrption of each. Population-group of organisms of one type that live in the same areaCommunity-populations that live together in a defined areaEcosystem-community and its nonliving surroundingsBiosphere-the part of Earth that contains all ecosystems
