Reading
| Term | Definition |

| Accuracy | reading words without errors |
| Fluency | the ability to read text at an appropriate rate; and with accuracy, expression and appropriate phrasing; not hurried reading |
| Stamina | the ability to stay focused on reading for a long period of time |
| Prediction | a guess about what will happen next in the story |
| Inference | an idea or conclusion that's drawn from evidence and reasoning |
| Genre | type or category of literature |
| Fiction | writing that is not true, made up stories about events that could really happen |
| Nonfiction | writing that is true; real facts; purpose to inform |
| Poetry | writing that creates emotion; it usually has rhythm and rhyme |
| Drama | written for performances by actors or actresses; dialogue is used |
| Folktale | a story that has been passed down by generations by word of mouth |
| Ideas | the main message, the content of the piece, the main theme, together with all the supporting details that enrich and develop that theme |
| Topic | what the story is about; the primary subject |
| Brainstorming | letting ideas come to you freely, without judgment |
| Audience | the person for whom a writer writes |
| Noun | names a person, place, thing or idea |
| Proper Noun | names a specific person, place, thing or idea |
| Dystopian | an imagined state or society where there is great suffering or injustice |
