| Photosynthesis | The process by which plants use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to create oxygen and energy in the form of sugar. |
| Predator | An animal that naturally preys on others. |
| Prey | An animal that is hunted and killed by another for food. |
| Community | An interacting group of various species in a common location. |
| Consumer | An organism that must eat to get its energy. |
| Decomposer | An organism that gets energy by breaking down dead organisms. |
| Ecosystem | All the living and nonliving things that interact with each other in an environment. |
| Energy | Transferred between organisms in food webs from producers to consumers. |
| Habitat | The natural home or environment of an animal, plant, or other organism. |
| Organism | Any living biological thing. |
| Population | All the inhabitants of a particular town, area, or country. |
| Producer | An organism that makes its own food; a plant. |
| Sun | The star at the center of the solar system. It is a hot ball of gases that gives off great amounts of energy. |
