Composition
| Term | Definition |

| Audience | Who you are writing for. |
| Draft | A version of something written, like an essay, that has or will have more than one version. |
| Genre | A fancy name for books that share a certain style, form or content. There are two main types of reading material: fiction and non-fiction. |
| Publish | The final draft of writing. |
| Topic | The general subject of a paragraph or essay. |
| Craft | The art of writing. |
| Fiction | Narrative writing that involves elements of plot and character created entirely by the author. |
| Personal Narative | Tells a true story about something that happened to you. |
| Poem | A piece of writing in which the words are chosen for their beauty and sound and are carefully arranged, often in short lines which rhyme. |
| Central Idea | The central, unifying element of the story, which ties together all of the other elements of fiction used by the author to tell the story. |
| Composition | The way a writer structures a piece of writing. |
| Informational | Nonfiction writing, written with the intention of informing the reader about a specific topic. |
| Argumentative | A text that supports a claim about a debatable topic using evidence as support. |
| Opinion Essay | A formal piece of writing which requires your opinion on a topic. |
| Correspondence | A written form of communication between two parties. |
