Overall Meaning

TermDefinition
Message What the author wants to teach you through his or her writing.
Theme The big idea of the story that the reader can determine by making an inference, an educated guess.
Author's Purpose Describes the reason behind why the author chose to write a specific piece.
Central Idea The most important idea that the writer is communicating to the reader.
Evidence Proof that's essential to an author creating a strong argument or claim.
Audience The person or group whom you intend to reach with your writing.
Claim A statement that answers the question.
