5 Ways to Show

Genre Characteristics - Informational

TermDefinition
Informational A type of nonfiction writing that conveys information about something, which means it is factual.
Insets Text that appears in a box somewhere on the page.
Sidebars A shorter piece of text that appears next to and accompanies a longer article.
Structure The way authors organize information in text.
Timeline A tool that organizes information. It is used to describe the order in which events happened.
Article A piece of writing other than fiction or poetry that forms a separate part of a publication (as a magazine or newspaper).
Chronological Order The arrangement of things following one after another in time.
Main Idea The most important point of the message the author wants to share.
Subheadings The heading or title of a section or subdivision of a printed text.
