Genre Characteristics - Fiction
| Term | Definition |

| Fable | A story that usually uses animals to teach a valuable life lesson, a moral. |
| Folktale | A story that gets passed on from generation to generation. |
| Legend | An old story that is widely believed but cannot be proved to be true. |
| Mythology | The rich collection of traditional tales called myths from cultures all over the world. |
| Tall Tales | Over the top stories with the characteristic language of outrageous claims, usually of physical strength or skill. |
| Event | Something important or notable that happens in a story. |
| Narrator | A person who tells a story to an audience. |
