Genre Characteristics - Fiction

TermDefinition
Fable A story that usually uses animals to teach a valuable life lesson, a moral.
Folktale A story that gets passed on from generation to generation.
Legend An old story that is widely believed but cannot be proved to be true.
Mythology The rich collection of traditional tales called myths from cultures all over the world.
Tall Tales Over the top stories with the characteristic language of outrageous claims, usually of physical strength or skill.
Event Something important or notable that happens in a story.
Narrator A person who tells a story to an audience.
