Mr. Bloom's semester 1 test

QuestionAnswer
Megan A person who is in Mr. Bloom's 6th grade science class.
solute A substance that is desolved.
evaporation The change of state from liquid to a gas at the surface of a liquid.
condensation The change of state from a gas to a liguid.
solvent A substance that dissolves other materials.
dilute Describes a solution with a small amount of solute compared to the amount of solvent.
concentrated Decribes a solution with a large amount of solute compared to the amount of solvent.
reactant A substance that undergoes a chemical reaction, often by combinding with another substance.
product A substance that is formed in a chemical reaction.
exothermic reaction A chemical reaction in which more energy is given off than is taken in.
endothermic reaction A chemical reaction in which more energy is taken in then given off.
formula Arrangment of symbols that showa both the kinds and number of atoms in a compound.
chemical equation An arrangment of symbols and formulas used to show what happens during a chemical reaction.
acid A compound that releases hydrogyn ions in water.
base A compound that releasses hydroxide ions when dissolved in water.
pH scale A set of numbers between 0 and 14 used to measure the strenth of acids or bases.
indicator A substance that changes color at a certain range of pH values.
neutralization A process in which an acid and a base react to produce A salt and water.
