Inherited Traits and Learned Behaviors TEK 5.10B

TermDefinition
Instinct Natural behavior in an animal that is not taught by parents or experience but is simply part of what an animal is born with.
Hibernation To go into a sleep-like state during winter.
Inherited Trait Characteristics that are passed from parent to offspring (for example: blue eyes, brown hair).
Learned Behavior A behavior an animal develops by observing other animals or by being taught.
Migration To move from one place to another in a pattern.
Mimicry An adaptation in which an animal looks very much like another animal or object.
Offspring The child of an animal or plant.
Parent An animal or plant that has produced offspring.
