| Decomposer | An organism that gets energy by breaking down dead organisms. |

| Flow of Energy | The movement of energy through a food chain or web. |
| Food Chain | A model that shows the path of energy as it flows from one living thing to the next. |
| Food Web | A diagram showing several food chains linked together. |
| Herbivore | A plant eater; a primary consumer. |
| Omnivore | An organism that eats both plants and animals. |
| Organism | Any living thing. |
| Producer | An organism that makes its own food; a plant. |
| Sun | The star at the center of the solar system. It is a hot ball of gases that gives off great amounts of energy. |
| Transfer of Energy | When energy is moved from one organism to another through eating. |
