Term | Definition |

Axis | An imaginary line through the center of an object that the object turns around. |
Equator | An imaginary line around the middle of a planet halfway between the north and south poles. |
Day-Night Cycle | The 24-hour period during which Earth rotates on its axis. |
Orbit | The path taken by one object circling around another object. |
Rotate | To spin on an axis. |
Shadow | The dark shape made when something blocks light from a light source like the sun, a flashlight, or campfire. |
Sunrise | The moment the sun appears on the horizon in the morning. |
Sunset | The moment the sun disappears from the horizon at night. |
Lunar Cycle | The 28-day cycle that includes New Moon, Quarter Moon, Full Moon, Quarter Moon. |
Full Moon | A moon phase when the moon appears completely lit up when seen from Earth. |
New Moon | When the Moon cannot be seen because we are looking at the unlit half of the Moon. |
Seasons | Quarterly period changes in the year due to the Earth’s tilting axis. |
