5 Weather

Weather TEK 5.8A

TermDefinition
Climate The average temperature and rainfall of an area over many years.
Atmosphere The blanket of air that surrounds Earth.
Rain Gauge A cylinder that catches rain to measure rainfall in an area.
Temperature A degree of hotness or coldness the can be measured using a thermometer.
Wind Vane Used to show the direction of the wind.
Meteorologist Type of scientist that studies the atmosphere to predict and understand earth's weather.
Weather Map Maps that show what the weather will be like in a certain area for the day and for the coming days.
Precipitation Water that falls to the earth as hail, mist, rain, sleet, or snow.
Barometer A tool used to measure air pressure.
Weather The condition of the atmosphere at a certain time and place.
Cold Front a boundary between two air masses, one cold and the other warm, moving so that the colder air replaces the warmer air. It is represented as a blue line with the teeth pointing toward the direction on movement.
Warm Front A boundary between two air masses, one cool and the other warm, moving so that the warmer air replaces the cooler air. It is represented as a red line with half circles pointing toward the direction on movement.
