Biomes

TermDefinition
Biome large region characterized by specific climate and what lives there (plant/animal communities)
Biodiversity variety of organisms in a given area
Latitude distance north or south of the equator and is measured in degrees. Equator equal to 0. (LAT is FLAT)
Altitude height of an object above sea level
Adaptation change that allows a population to improve its ability to survive
Temperature the measure of hotness or coldness expressed in terms of any of several scales, including Fahrenheit and Celsius.
Precipitation form of water that falls from the clouds. rain, snow, sleet, hail
Climatograph graphical representation of a location's basic climate (temperature and precipitation).
Permafrost permanently frozen layer of soil
Salinity measurement of the amount of dissolved salts given amount of liquid
pH value that is used to express the acidity or basic
Eutrophication an increase in the amount of nutrients in aquatic ecosystems
Aquatic occurring in a body of WATER
Terrestrial occurring on LAND
Marine large aquatic ecosystem that includes saltwater. Ex: ocean
Fresh water water that contains little or no salt. Ex: lake, pond
Climate refers to weather conditions: temperature, precipitation, humidity, winds that occur over a long period of time.
Estuary where salt and fresh water meet a very critical aquatic environment
