| biopharmaceutical or biologic medical product | bioengineered drugs, produced by rDNA technology, expensive |
| chemical name | describes the chemical makeup of a drug in detail, usually long and difficult to pronounce |
| generic name | shorter name of chemical name, identifies the drug without regard to who in particular is manufacturing and marketing the drug |
| brand name of trade name | name under which the manufacturer markets the drug, proprietary, usually 20 year copyright given when drug first introduced |
| drug sources | plant parts or products, animals, fungi, minerals, chemicals, and recombinant deoxyribonucleic acid (rDNA) |
| alternative medicine | describes medical products and practices that are not part of standard care, may include homeopathy, herbs, supplements, acupuncture |
