Earth Structures

For a project.

TermDefinition
Earthquakes Violent shaking of the ground, caused by the movement of tectonic plates.
Mountains Formed by tectonic plates pushing together along boundaries and forcing the ground upwards.
Ocean Rifts Formed by seafloor spreading, tectonic plates move away causing a rift.
Volcanoes Similarly formed to mountains -- but Magma becomes stuck in a chamber and eventually erupts.
Boundaries The place where two plates meet.
Faults Caused by stress between tectonic plates -- causes the rocks at the surface to break because of the stress.
Plate Tectonics The theory of continental drift, tectonic plates -- words like convergent, divergent, and seafloor spreading are used to describe parts of it.
