Water Cycle/Weather
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Water Cycle | |
| Water Storage | Water locked up in its present state for a relatively long time |
| Evaporation | When liquid changes to a gas |
| Sublimation | The process of snow turning to water vapor without first melting |
| Transpiration | |
| Evapotranspiration | Water lost through the atmosphere from the ground surface and transpiration of groundwater through their leaves |
| Atmospheric Pressure | Pressure caused by the weight of air above an area |
| Air Masses | |
| High Pressure | As air cools it becomes more dense and sinks towards the earth's surface spinning clockwise |
| Low Pressure | As air warms, it becomes less dense and rises above the earth's surface spinning counterclockwise |
| Isobars | A line connections points of equal atmospheric pressure |
| Barometer | Measures atmospheric pressure in mb and Hg |
| Weather Balloon | |
| Compass Rose | |
| Anemometer | Measures wind speed in mph |
| Thermometer | Measures temperature |
| Wind Vane | |
| Front | The boundary between 2 air masses |
| Cold Front | A cold air mass replacing a warm air mass |
| Warm Front | A warm air mass replacing a cold air mass |
| Stationary Front | A boundary between two air masses that aren't strong enough to overtake one another |
| Occluded Front | 2 cold air masses converge on a warm air mass |
| Atmosphere | Super highway used to transport water around the globe |
| Condensation | When water vapor turns into water |
| Hydro logic cycle | Process by which water circulates between Earth's oceans, atmosphere, and land |
| Solstice |
