NATURAL DISASTERS

NATURAL DISASTERS Violent events that are outside the control of humans. They are caused by the forces of nature and may result in loss of life, injury, and damage to property.
TORNADO It is a violent rotating column of air extending from the sky to the ground
EARTHQUAKE It is when the ground shakes and cracks. The ground is shaking, rolling or sudden shock of the earth’s surface.
TSUNAMI Series of very large waves in the sea, usually caused by an underwater earthquake. When the water from the ocean comes in and cover the land.
HURRICANE It is a large rotating storm with high speed winds.
FLOOD It occurs when it rains a lot and the water in a river gets so high that overflows the riverbanks. Then the water invades the surrounding areas.
VOLCANIC ERUPTION It is when a mountain with a hole in the top where fire, gas and liquid rock called lava, comes out.
WILDFIRE It is a large and destructive fire that spreads over a forest. Uncontrolled burning of plants and trees in a natural setting.
BLIZZARD It is a very strong snowstorm with severe winds.
DROUHT It is when the land dries up due to prolonged dry weather. A long time when there is not enough rain.
