| Term | Definition |

| sound | created by vibrations that produce waves of energy that move through matter |
| vibration | back and forth movement, that causes sound |
| pitch | measures how high or low a sound is |
| loudness | measures how well a sound can be heard |
| decibel | unit measuring loudness |
| Doppler Effect | the change in pitch (frequency) as a sound gets closer to you |
| vacuum | a place where there are NO molecules. Sound can not be heard here. |
| hertz | unit measuring pitch (frequency) |
| amplitude | height of a wave. used to measure loudness (volume) |
| frequency | number of waves that pass a position in a certain amount of time |
