Weathering The breaking apart of rocks into smaller pieces called sediments. Physical or Chemical
Erosion The movement of sediments to a new location. Wind, water, gravity, ice. Creates sea arches, caves, mesas, cliffs, etc.
Deposition The collection of sediment in a new location; constructive! Example: Sand dunes made by wind erosion
Volcanoes Mountains made at plate boundaries or above hot spots.
Earthquakes Destructive; can cause further destruction by causing volcanic eruptions and tsunamis
Slow destructive processes Erosion of mountains and islands, weathering
Fast destructive processes Volcanic eruptions, landslides
Earthquake Technology Seismology, seismographs, seismograms
Flooding Technology Dams-engineered to prevent the destruction of flooding! Levees- Hurricane Flooding
Soil Erosion Cover crops Planting trees and shrubs on hillsides
