What is cell recognition? One cell specifically binding with another type of cell.
What is cell adhesion? It occurs when the connection between 2 cells is strengthened.
What allows this type of binding? Glyco-proteins
What type of solution does water like to move towards to reach a state of equilibrium? Hypertonic solutes (where there is less water)
Are small non-polar molecules aided in diffusion? No, they can just pass through the membrane.
What is the difference between gated and ion channels? Gated channels require a stimulus molecule to allow transport and ion channels are open.
What're the three ports involved in active transport? Uniport, symport, and antiport
How is the sodium potassium pump simultaneously able to pump out sodium? There are other proteins that use secondary active transport to pump the sodium back into the cell (to continue the cycle)
What are the 3 types of endocytosis? Phagocytosis, Pinocytosis, and Receptor Mediated Endocytosis
Why is it important for all membranes of a cell to be made of the same substance? The phospholipid bi-layer is interchangeable and membranes can converge or separate.
Which type of endocytosis is for only specific molecules to enter? Receptor-mediated Endocytosis.
