The 5 Gen Senses

5 General Senses Pain, touch, pressure, temperature, proprioception

QuestionAnswer
What are the 5 general senses? Pain, touch, pressure, temperature, proprioception
The receptors for pain are also called WHAT? Nociceptors
These receptors consist of free nerve endings that are stimulated by tissue damage. Pain/nociceptors
These receptors do not adapt and may continue to send signals after the stimulus is removed. Pain/nociceptors
These receptors are widely distributed throughout the skin and other internal tissues. Pain/nociceptors
When pain feels as if it is coming from an area other than the site where it originates, it is called WHAT? Referred pain.
The receptors for touch and pressure are known as WHAT type of receptors? Mechanoreceptors (They respons to forces that press, move, or deform tissue)
Touch receptors are also called WHAT? Tactile receptors
Touch/tactile receptors are mostly found in the WHAT? Skin
Receptors for heavy pressure are located in the skin, WHAT and WHAT? subcutaneous tissue and deep tissue (heavy receptors are stimulated by heavy ball in arms)
The receptors for temperature are called WHAT receptors? Thermoreceptors
The two types of thermoreceptors are WHAT and WHAT? Heat and cold
Thermoreceptors are found on free WHAT endings and scattered widely throughout the WHAT? Nerve, body
Both heat and cold thermoreceptors display WHAT so that the sensation of heat or cold fades quickly. Adaptation
Remember, pain receptors do not adapt. If you place your hand in boiling water, you will feel intense, continuous WHAT? Pain
This is the sense of orientation or position and is known as WHAT? Proprioception
The receptors for proprioception, alled proprioceptors, are located in WHAT, WHAT AND WHAT? Muscles, tendons, joints
Proprioceptors are also found in the inner WHAT where they function in balance or equilibrium. Ear

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
