Types of Joint Movements

| This is the straightening of a joint so that the angle between the bones increases (straightening leg at the knee or the fingers to open the hand) | Extension |

| This is bending the foot up toward the leg. | Dorsiflexion |
| This is overextending the joint beyond its normally straightened position, as in moving the hand toward the upper surface of the wrist. | Hyperextension. |
